Confined Space Attendant
Standby and Hole-Watch for Confined Spaces — Competency and Certification Course
The Confined Space Attendant (hole-watch / standby person) guards the entrants from outside the space and never enters. This course covers the attendant's role and authority, the confined space hazards being watched for, the entry permit and attendant duties, continuous atmospheric and visual monitoring, constant two-way communication, access control and the entry log, recognising an emergency, non-entry rescue and retrieval with harness, line, tripod and winch, summoning the trained rescue team, and the absolute rule that the attendant never enters — because would-be rescuers are a large share of confined space fatalities. Frameworks: OSHA 1910.146 and site confined space entry practice.
